Default Can't Record Speaker Audio

Like the title says, I can't record the sound coming out of my speakers. I can do it with fraps, but I only have a trial version of that. Also, when I go to Audio Options, there is nothing to choose from at the Device and Source tabs, which is kinda strange. The Audio Wizard doesn't work either, cause I can't choose any of the options available.

Recording with a Microphone still works though.

I'm using Vista Home Edition (think it's called like this, but dunno for sure) and I'm using a Realtek Audio Card.

Smile Can't Record Speaker Audio

Go to the Camtasia Recorder and check your audio card and input. If you want to record sound from your computer then select "What You Hear". If you also have narration to capture then select both. See the screen capture below.

Default Me neither

Hey. I've found that maybe you cannot record any sound if your audio card is Realtek. Is this true?

techytrendy,

My XP Pro laptop has Realtek audio card and I get good sound quality with CS5.

On the Recorder I tick the Microphone box, go to audio option under the mic icon, click on the setup wizard and tick the "Speaker/what you hear" radio button.

On my system you must tick BOTH the microphone box for it to pick up speaker sound, even though no mic is plugged in. If I just highlight Speaker/what you hear button, and not the mic button, I get no "what you hear" speaker sound.

For a while I thought my laptop built-in mic might be picking up the speaker sound, but I get no ambient sound (TV, radio, fan noise). I can turn down the sound and the volume is still good on the recorded video, web or DVD.

I'm having the same issues.

Speaker Audio (What You Hear)
Microphone and Speaker Audio

are both greyed out.

I'm using Conexant as well, on an HP laptop dv6700, running Vista.

i've also got a friend using vista who has the same problem. Any advice from anyone?

These options have always been dependent on the input lines that the audio driver exposes for a given audio device. Some devices work and others don't.

I did make a change in CS 5.1.0 to try to improve the "what you hear" support on Vista. So if you have 5.0.x, I'd recommend installing 5.1.0 to see if that helps. It's still dependent on the audio device/drivers, but there should be more devices that work in Vista with 5.1.0 than with earlier releases.

If installing 5.1.0 doesn't help, the other ways to record system audio are explained here: http://techsmith.custhelp.com/cgi-bi...hp?p_faqid=152

Hope this helps.

Default Another possiblity...

I had a similar issue but it wasn't Camtasia's fault. I recently added a USB VOIP telephone device to my Camtasia workstation. I noticed right away that I couldn't record "What you Hear" speaker audio or my Samson USB microphone input. I moved the device to another computer and all was well again.

"What You Hear" may be dependent on a software mixer that allows you to select one or more devices. With my SoundBlaster card, the latest driver set changed "Record Master" to "What You Hear" and "Wave/MP3". The former only works if I select the correct input devices, while the latter works well with no fiddling to record output directed to the speakers.

Question No Sound Recorded too using Soundmax HD Audio on my PC...

Hi,

I have tried setting the audio options with "Speaker Sound (what you hear), CD Player and Stereo Mix....all without success. I also tried them again with the "microphone" ticked but with the same negative result.

Is Soundmax HD Audio sound driver compatible with CS??

If it is supposedly to record sound coming out of the speakers connected to the pc,then it should record regardless of which sound driver or soundcard used....right?

Camtasia should investigate and come out with a solution to help us overcome this problem because so far, user-to-user discussions could not pinpoint the core of the problem let alone offer any solution cos the problem may be complex due to numerous factors which Camtasia must address and provide a update or patch to solve this problem.

Thanks and regards,
