I placed a posting on the Basic section but for some reasons got no replies.

What I am trying to do is use Camtasia to create a 'talking-head' style of tutorial.

I have placed an image of what I am trying to achieve at www.apt.co.nz/2.gif

Can someone please tell me if this is possible with Camtasia or if there is a workaround?

Best regards

Andrew

You can't have picture in picture videos like that. However, if you did a PowerPoint presentation, or something similar, that had a talking head inside it, and recorded it as it played back, then that would do basically what you are wanting to do.

Thank you for using Camtasia Studio!

Thank you for that response. For some reason I was under the impression that if you did a screen capture of a Powerpoint, the sound would not be captured. I assume this is incorrect.

So the PowerPoint approach could be the solution I need.

Thanks again

Camtasia can record directly from your sound card. Please see #13:

Andrew:

You are trying to use a wrench on screws. Camtasia is currently the wrong tool for the job. The picture-in-picture effect can be done quite handily with Premiere, Avid, Liquid or any one of a number of other non-linear video editors with special effects.

Thanks JD

I do have Pinnacle 8 so will invistagate if it can do the 'talking-head' format.

Otherwise will check out the products you have mentioned.

I notice on the Techsmith customer examples a sort of a work-around for the 'talking-head' format.

Can anyone explain exactly how this is done. I suspect that Net Meeting is part of the solution.

If you can display a talking head on your secreen while your are recroding, Camtasia can just record it with your other content. I'm not sure, but I don't think there is any special trick there, just recording the Neetmeeting window while it's displayed on the screen.

Thanks...

Can I assume then that Camtasia will capture both the Vidio and the Audio from the NetMeeting window?

You can capture the audio as well, if you use the tutorial in the first part of this section of the FAQ:

That's interesting but a bit complex.

I think this would be a simpler solution http://aptplan.com/3.gif
