I'm NOT able to encode using non-camtasia products.. on win2k

I started by installing the tscc.exe codec, file 173744 bytes which I downloaded from: http://www.getafile.com/cgi-bin/merlot/get/techsmith/TSCC.exe

tscc avi's play fine, but doesn't allow to encode poping up a message:

"Please install TechSmith's Camtasia Studio screen recorder and video production tool. TSCC allows compression only if you have registered (or you are evaluating) Camtasi Studio.

Visit www.techsmith.com for the latest Camtasia Studio version and product information."

OK.. so I download the trail version of Camtasia Studio 15.5MB, install it, bring up recorder, and it records just fine, i.e. encoding using TSCC codec.. once again, bring up any 3rd party tool try to encode, get same pop up error message as above...

Try to reboot, same error.. uninstall camtasia, reboot, try to remove the codec using Control panel, sound-multimedia, hardware, video codecs, properties, click TechSmith and hit remove, but it DOESN'T remove codec... boot into SAFE mode attempt same remove procedure, doesn't remove the codec...

OK, reboot normal, install camtasia once again, the 15.5MB file, reboot.. attempt to encode using producer (have to agree to trial license) works OK.. bring up 3rd party application, attempt to encode, FAILS... with pop up above...

please help.... or at least tell me how to permanently REMOVE the TSCC codec...

I noticed on the release history of TSCC
http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/tscchistory.asp

the most recent fix is exactly this issue: "Fixed a bug which caused TSCC to not allow compression with 3rd party applications ..."

is it still broken??

Thanks.

No, this is not still broken. People use TSCC within third party applications all the time.

Exactly what applications are you trying to use TSCC in?

Can you reproduce the problem on multiple systems? (this is just for testing)

Thank you for using Camtasia Studio!

Premire, virtual dub or camstudio (ehelp)...

is there a way to uninstall the codec?

I don't want to try on other machines at this point...

After rebooting and removing/uninstalling a lot of times, reinstalling both tscc standalone and entire demo now it lets me encode in above 3 products, but I would like to know if there's a way to remove it, as of now all my attempts failed, hence I'm afraid of putting other machines.

thanks.

You can uninstall the TSCC codec by running it with a /REMOVE command line argument, like this:

TSCC.exe /REMOVE

Are you using TSCC as your compression codec when you are having trouble, or is it any codec that has trouble?

Thank you for using Camtasai Studio!

Hi !
I'm having a similar problem to this.
Last week I was able to encode .avi files recorded with camtasia using Windows Media Encoder 7.1. In trying to debug a problem with streaming on a file, I installed WME9 to try encoding with it. As I have since read, the encoders in WME9 are not as good for screen capture & audio as the WM7 encoders, so I uninstalled WME9 and re-installed WME71. This morning when I went to encode a new avi file I get a message from WME that the avi file "is not an acceptable media file. It may have an unsupported or invalid format or may be corrupted".
It seemed to me that WME was not recognizing the TSSC encoding, so I have tried re-running the Camtasia Studio 1.1.1 installer, and re-running the TSSC.exe. I still can't get WME to encode the AVI file from camtasia.

Do you have any other suggestions for things to try?

thanks

Hello,

Try creating an AVI that uses the MS Video 1 codec. Can you convert that to a WMV?

Thank you for using Camtasia Studio!

Can you use Windows Media Encoder 9 or 7 itself to do the conversion?

(Outside of Camtasia Studio, just the encoder application)
