View Full Version : wrong colours when capturing

I'm testing SnagIt 7.0.2 on Win XP with 2 restricted users with identical settings. Snagit's properties are set to automatically do a capture from a Scrolling Window. When User1 captures the Windows Desktop the screenshot looks like it really is; when User2 does the same (identical SnagIt settings, also all registry entries!) then the background of the captured Desktop is modified to be white i/o showing the desktop wallpaper in the background. I already resetted all the settings but the result didn't change. When capturing a window only (non-scrolling) then all captures are showing the correct background.

Up to now I couldn't find a difference in the settings between the users nore an option to set the background to "unchanged" or "original color" or something like this.

Is there anyone out in the world who perhaps give me a hint how to solve this little problem?

Up to now this is the only small thing in SnagIt which I don't like (and cannot accept, because the background for some of the projected usages is very important!), i.e. I like SnagIt and want to buy it after having it tested successfully.

1000 thnx in advance!

Peter

What kind of video card does the second user have?

Thank you for using SnagIt!

It's the same card as for the first user, i.e. nVidia 4?? MX.

Is the user with the problem using any desktop management software?

In Snagit, check Filters>Color depth, and Filters>Color Substitution. Are either of those checked?

You could try resetting Snagit's configuration:
Tools>Program Preferences>Program Options>Reset Configuration

Thanks for your reply. No one of the options you're referring to is checked. I already did a reset of the settings, no change.
Sorry.
May be that an uninstall, cleanup of the registry and re-install could solve the problem???
Thnx again,
Peter

Yes, if you haven't done and uninstall/reinstall yet, I would try that.

Thank you for using Camtasia Studio!

Sorry for the delay in passing you my comments. Due to Xmas and end of year I didn't spend at home. But now I'm back.-

Sorry, but nothing helps. I uninstalled snagit completely and furthermore I deleted all registry entries in connection with SnagIt and/or TechSmith. Then I reinstalled the program and hat the same result: for one user the background in the screenshot is changed to white automatically, for another user the background is kept as it originally is/was.

Does anyone have an idea?

Peter

Try turning off hardware acceleration: Right click on a blank area of the desktop and select Properties>Settings>Advanced>Troubleshooting. Set the acceleration slider to None.
