I'm currently using Snagit 6.x and have a question concerning the video capture function. I was in the process of capturing a video, and was ready to save the video to a file. However, when I stopped the recording, I accidentally clicked "cancel" instead of saving it.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure Snagit uses a temporary file to store the video as it's recording since the hard drive seems to run intermittently while performing this function. So my question is whether or not this temporary video file is recoverable in some way. If anyone can help, I would be extremely grateful!!

The temporary file location is defined in Input>Properties>Video Capture Preferences. If a temp file exists there, download our program Camtasia Studio. It includes RECOVERY.EXE and RECOVERY.TXT.

RECOVERY.TXT explains how to use RECOVERY.EXE to recover the temp file.

I've tried this with a Snag-it _snagvid.tmp file, and a reference .avi file captured 2min earlier, but it didn't work, i just got an error : "Unable to find AVI data chunk"
