Every time I try to take a screen capture of something on DVD, it will act as a moving image when I paste it into Paint Shop Pro, then when I save it and try to open it again, it becomes a black image instead of what the picture was. Can anyone tell me what I need to do? The DVD is on pause when I capture the picture, so that isn't the problem, but I'm at a complete loss now.

Try turning off hardware acceleration. Right click on a blank area of your desktop and select Properties>Settings>Advanced>Troubleshooting, and slide the acceleration slider to None.

If you are using a hardware DVD decoder it will probably not work with acceleration. In that case you could try a software DVD decoder:

WinDVD: First, set SnagIt’s input to Input->Advanced->DirectX. Click the wrench icon in the WinDVD window to go into the configuration options, then click the video tab and uncheck hardware acceleration. Now you should be able to capture by just pressing Scroll Lock.

PowerDVD: First, set SnagIt’s input to Input->Advanced->DirectX. In older versions of PowerDVD you should be able to go into the configuration options and in the video tab, uncheck all the hardware acceleration options except for color acceleration. Then you should be able to capture by pressing scroll lock. In newer versions of PowerDVD, you shouldn't have to change anything in the PowerDVD configuration options, you can just press scroll lock to capture.
